In 2024 Peterborough Presents is celebrating 10 years of working with communities across the city to create great ‘art’. Mention the arts and people naturally think of galleries and theatres. For the last 10 years, arts organisation Peterborough Presents has been working with people from across the city to show that it is this and so much more. It can mean circuses, folk tales, street murals, poetry on the walls at the Lido, Zombie Walks at Diwali, being serenaded by violins whilst in a hot tub at Thorpe Meadows, going on magical history tours and creating lantern parades. It can mean carnivals at Millfield Festival, weekly craft groups or even doing up your local street with colourful planters. For their birthday, the Peterborough Presents team want to celebrate all the ways in which you can be creative and encourage you to get creative too. Their 10th birthday is as ambitious as ever! It kicks-off at Peterborough Celebrates Festival on 18th & 19th May at Ferry Meadows. Peterborough Presents will be taking over the ‘creative dome’. In there you can watch amazing carnival performances by Mandinga Arts or get involved in drawing and making sessions. Of course, there will be some party games too! Artist Rose Croft is currently working with groups from across the city to create colourful garlands and artworks from recycled materials that will decorate the Creative Dome. With funding from Arts Council England, Peterborough Presents has been working with people of all ages and backgrounds. Programme Director Sarah Haythornthwaite says “ There’s a lot of creativity in Peterborough and also energy to try something different. 10 years is a proper milestone too. Over those years we have had the pleasure, and honour, of working with specific neighbourhoods in the city to create projects alongside local residents. We don’t tell people what ‘arts’ they need." "We start by getting to know people, find out what inspires them, what's missing and then we create something together. It makes every project and every neighbourhood unique. We have seen people make new friends, learn new skills, even seen communities come together for the first time. They have looked at their neighbourhood in a different way and found creative ways to shout about something important to them. We’ve worked with some amazing established artists but have also helped to support some fabulous new ones too. Above all, we’ve had fun!” The birthday celebrations will continue throughout the year with community-led creative programmes in Millfield, Westwood, Eye, and beyond. Highlights include the Millfield Makers event in August, Eye Lantern Parade in November and film projects with young people in Westwood. You can expect some short films, podcasts and digital artwork released online too. Sarah continues “ The Peterborough Presents programme has provided thousands of people the opportunity to be part of creative activities over the last 10 years. We enjoy working closely with communities to co-produce our programme so that residents can experience art on their doorstep – projects that are relevant and fun!! A party isn’t a party unless others join us on the dance floor. So, we’re inviting you all to come and join us at Peterborough Celebrates and have a go at being a bit creative. ” Peterborough Presents is hosted by Nene Park Trust and supported by Metal, Peterborough City Council, Peterborough Council for Voluntary Services, Eastern Angles and Creative Lives. The programme is funded by Arts Council England. You can find out more about by visiting www.peterboroughpresents.org . Placing as much importance on the visual aspect as the music, Fältsånger strives to make each concert an experience, with unique opening films that draw the audience into their world before emerging from the shadows to blend into the psychedelic projections that flood the stage as the music blossoms. Fältsånger are perhaps best described as psychedelic electronica. Or maybe ambient space rock. Or even experimental muzak. Whatever the label, their music is uniquely their own. Coming from Warrington, the band appeared in 2023 with a few releases across streaming platforms and a small number of highly visual concerts at select venues. Believing in a "live is best" approach, the band rarely writes traditional songs, usually relying on fate to deliver songs through extended jams. Often these jams require an element of editing to bring them down to digestible lengths, although sometimes, as was the case with The Moon Shimmers With Secrets, a full album can appear entirely through live, and unedited, improvisation. Described recently as "the most innovative band around", their fans find them reminiscent of Tangerine Dream, The Orb, Herbie Hancock, Gong, Spaceheads, Ryksöpp, and even Manuel Göttsching, the band cites few of these as influences. No doubt if you are fans of these groups, Fältsånger could be well worth considering as an addition to your Spotify playlists. Alternatively, you could join the audience at Warrington's Pyramid Arts Centre, this Saturday. Sit back close your eyes and be whisked from the angst of the modern world. Fältsånger are looking to start making appearances further afield, but for now, to experience them you will have to travel to Warrington. " Compelling and raw viewing " ★★★★ Movie Marker Kindred Pictures are thrilled to announce that their debut release, documentary Chasing Chasing Amy , will be coming to UK cinemas from 17th May. After celebrating its World Premiere at Tribeca Film Festival, the film also screened to sold out showings at this year's BFI Flare: London LGBTIQ+ Film Festival on 14th and 16th March. The documentary features interviews with Kevin Smith, as well as several of the Chasing Amy cast including Joey Lauren Adams, Guinevere Turner and Jason Lee. Chasing Chasing Amy explores the transformational impact of a ‘90s rom-com on a 12 year old kid from Kansas, coming of age and contending with queer identity. For young Sav Rodgers, the Kevin Smith cult classic, Chasing Amy, became a life raft. As Rodgers examines the film and its making as a cornerstone of LGBTQ+ cinema, he finds himself at a complicated crossroads. Originally from Kansas, Sav Rodgers is a filmmaker and screenwriter whose feature directorial debut CHASING CHASING AMY is about the complicated legacy of Chasing Amy (1997) and its profound impression on his life. The TED Talk he gave in 2018 kickstarted this filmmaking journey, and spurred the writing of scripts that center on highly specific, surprising stories about queer people. His screenplays have been recognized by GLAAD, Outfest, ScreenCraft, among others. An alumnus of the Producers Guild of America’s inaugural PGA Create program, Sav is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Transgender Film Center, a nonprofit aiming to help trans creators bring finished films to audiences around the world. Sav is a proud University of Kansas graduate and still sports KU baseball caps wherever he goes. Director, Sav Rodgers on releasing in the UK: " I'm beyond elated that Kindred Pictures and the Chasing Chasing Amy team are joining forces to bring our film to cinemas in the UK. We've been so fortunate to screen at amazing independent film festivals all over the world, including Tribeca, BFI Flare, and the London Film Festival. Our documentary is a sincere, heartfelt look about the the ways movies shape our lives, and bringing this film to big screen is a dream come true."

North Walian Artist ' Mared ' aka Mared Williams has announced her New EP ' Better Late Than Never' released independently last week. Following on from the warmly received 'Lately' single which was a beautiful tribute to the Laurel Canyon Movement of the late sixties. A time when America woke up to the possibility of singer/song-writers, with people like Carole King. Splitting her time between rural Wales and London, Mared’s music results in an intriguing blend of folk infused soul-pop. Deeply connected to her roots in Welsh folk but always seeking to combine with a new pace in the city. Mared's debut bilingual album, 'Y Drefn' was awarded Welsh Album of The Year in 2021. Since then, Mared released her EP 'Something Worth Losing', in 2022, co-written with producer Nate Williams in Beaumaris and has been supported by Radio Wales' Welsh A list and BBC Radio Cymru and performed her originals with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and at Sony Hall in NYC. Mared’s solo gigs are intimate and powerful when she plays for herself, but in keeping with the enormous flexibility of her vocals, the full band set up of 7 friends has sold outand brought joy to venues such as (London): Pizza Express Holborn, Greennote Music, (Wales): Clwb Ifor Bach, Pontio and many more. Her name is already on summer festival line-ups, such as Focus Wales in Wrexham and the North American Festival of Wales in Pittsburg (Pennsylvania) and she’s looking forwards to growing her fanbase this year as new music is released. We are promised a full band live album, consisting of both released and unreleased songs, supported by BBC Horizons Launchpad. For more information on Mared's music both live and recorded please check out linktr.ee/MaredMusic

Impressive PR take over Brighton's Secret Comedy Club 42 Brighton Square, tomorrow to showcase music acts from all over the world. As part of The Great Escape, a festival for new music, showcasing 500 emerging artists from all over the world in 30+ walkable venues across the city and a pop-up festival site on Brighton Beach. It’s the first place to discover your new favourite artist and see them in an intimate setting before they go on to headline major festival stages. 12:00-12:25 Marissa Burwell (Canada) It doesn’t take long to get to know Marissa. In her blindingly personal work, Burwell writes about childhood, love, vertigo, and snow. With her captivating warm vocals and sharp prose, she effortlessly weaves an enchanting indie sound that flows between folk and rock, traversing sensuous melodies to exhilaratingly raucous moments. Hailing from the city of Regina, Saskatchewan, she made her remarkable debut with a self-titled EP in 2019. The overwhelmingly positive response to her EP opened doors to international opportunities and in 2022 Marissa proudly unveiled her debut full-length album, “Bittersweet”, which showcased her warm, summery voice and wry wit beneath its indie-folk exterior. She has graced the stage at renowned events like Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival, the New Colossus Festival in NYC, and multiple Canadian festivals including Breakout West, NXNE, Pop Montreal and SXSW. Burwell’s latest EP Either Way, released via Devil Duck Records features the clearest synthesis of Burwell’s spectrum of musical sensibilities yet with moments of warm musical tones featuring thick harmonies wrapped around guitars and gentle drumbeats while other moments showcase cathartic bursts of alternative rock, erupting in dizzying crescendos of hammering pianos. https://marissaburwell.com/ https://www.facebook.com/marissaburwellmusic 12:40 - 1:05 No Windows (Scotland) No Windows:The award-winning Edinburgh-based duo comprised of Verity Blossom (vocals/songwriting) and Morgan Morris (production/songwriting) fuse DIY, folk and classic pop on their second EP Point Nemo released on Fat Possum. Taking its name from the location farthest away from land in the world, the five track EP evokes wintry isolation, and marks a significant step forward for the duo, taking inspiration from the expansive sound-worlds of Elliott Smith and Cocteau Twins, their Scottish peers Cloth and Jacob Alon, and a shared musical curiosity that is all their own. The effortless musical chemistry comes from the tight relationship at its core as Verity and Morgan – now 19 and 18 – met as young teenagers at school in Edinburgh, after Morgan came across Verity – in the year above – who shared videos online of her singing. They quickly established a friendship and an artistic bond, with Verity adding her emotionally charged lyrics to Morgan’s bedroom recordings. https://fatpossum.com/collections/no-windows 1:20 - 1:45 HMS Morris (Wales) HMS Morris: are a bilingual, award-winning, female-fronted art-rock four-piece from Cardiff, Wales. Supported by the esteemed Bubblewrap Collective (Georgia Ruth, Boy Azooga, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzzard, Sweet Baboo), they've already released two critically acclaimed albums, Interior Design and Inspirational Talks, both Welsh Music Prize nominees and variously described as ‘Innovative, forward thinking pop music’ (Earthly Pleasures), ‘strange and beautiful music’ (Electronic Sound) and a 'multi-dimensional sound that traipses across hitherto unexplored regions of sound' (Clash)’. https://hmsmorris.com/ 2:00 - 2:25 Hotel Mira (Canada) Hotel Mira: is a Canadian alt-rock band who are fresh from a string of stellar shows at SXSW. The band released their new single “Waste Away at the end of April via Light Organ Records. The quartet comprises of LA based charismatic front man and songwriter Charlie Kerr, guitarist Clark Grieve, Mike Noble on bass and drummer Cole George. While building off the sharp, indie pop hooks, Hotel Mira are exploring their widest set of sounds yet, vaulting from neon-trashy garage rock to festival-sized pop hooks and glam-bop balladry. Live Charlie performs in a way that feels uniquely part Iggy Pop, part go-go dancer, and part fourth wall breaking experimental theatre. He tells a story to the crowd through his masterful lyrics, hip-swaying melodies, and attentiveness to his audience that makes each person in the venue feel special. Mike, Cole and Clark provide a sweeping soundscape that makes it impossible not to be swept away in the melodrama and passion of each song they play. The band has supported many acts including Billy Talent, Fizzy Blood, The Beaches and Frank Lero (My Chemical Romance), and carried out multiple headlining tours of their own. https://www.facebook.com/hotelmiramusic/ https://www.instagram.com/hotelmiramusic/?hl=en https://www.tiktok.com/@hotelmira https://www.hotelmiramusic.com/ 2:40 - 3:05 Asha Jefferies (Australia) Asha Jefferies: Hails from the Northern Rivers in Australia but raised in Brisbane, her debut album Ego Ride released in April this year, through Nettwerk Music Group. The album speaks to an audience of listeners searching for moments of self-reflection and authenticity. To date, Asha Jefferies has toured with and supported acts including Julia Jacklin, Stella Donnelly, and has played notable Australian festival slots at BIGSOUND, Icebreaker Festival, Against the Grain, Bluesfest, Woodford Folk and Mullum Music Festivals. 3:20 - 3:45 My Life Story (England) My Life Story: are epic pop pioneers headed up by charismatic frontman, Jake Shillingford who released their fifth studio album ‘Loving You Is Killing Me’ in February via Exilophone Records/Republic Of Music. This follows their last critically acclaimed album ‘World Citizen’ released in 2019. The new album discusses themes of empathy, profaneness, vaingloriousness, coercive behaviour and naturism. The record, published by Mute Song, has been written and produced by Jake alongside Nick Evans and mixed by Ben Hillier who produced two Depeche Mode albums as well as working with Blur, Patrick Wolf, Nadine Shah and Peter Perrett. The record features this year’s singles: ‘Numb Numb Numb’, ‘Tits & Attitude’ and ‘I Am God’. The band became a pioneering force in the Britpop movement scoring 6 UK top 40 singles and a top 40 album inspiring the era's orchestral identity. Combining playful lyrics with epic pop, MLS formed in Southend in 1984. By the early 90s, Shillingford had grown the band into a flamboyant orchestral 11 piece with string and brass section. Their passionate, often chaotic live shows lead to Giles Martin (The Beatles) recording tracks for their debut album ‘Mornington Crescent’ after discovering them at the Marquee. Signed to Parlophone in 1996, the band released ‘The Golden Mile’ which spawned most hit singles including ‘12 Reasons Why I Love Her’, ‘Strumpet’ and ‘Sparkle’. ‘Joined Up Talking’ followed on Andrew Lloyd Webber's It Records in 2000, featuring sixth hit single, ‘It's A Girl Thing’. Many collaborations followed including Morrissey, The Pogues and Marc Almond. MLS performed Glastonbury Pyramid stage and Reading Festival 4 times. They supported Blur & Pulp and are one of the only bands to headline over Oasis. https://mylifestory.band/ Image above HMS Morris (c) Rhiannon Holland

“ …after more than a decade of successes, experimentation and growth in the genre’s top tier - the multi-faceted singer-songwriter has zeroed in on his truest sound with Rise and Fall. ” – Holler On the heels of his sixth No. 1 hit on the U.S. Country Aircheck/Mediabase Chart with lead single 'Cab in a Solo', Triple Tigers recording artist Scotty McCreery released his fifth studio album "Rise and Fall" last Friday. The North Carolina native knows all too well there’s a rhythm to life and a cycle of ups and downs. And right now, he’s on the upswing. “ I feel like we’re on the rise now, but I’ve fallen pretty low as well, ” McCreery admits. “I learned from every little part of that, and it helped me to know who I was as a person – let alone an artist. The rises and the falls helped craft these songs. They made this album what it is. I’ve been living with this record for months…it is more me than any I’ve ever made, and I’m so excited for the world to finally hear it,” added McCreery. “ Across the 13-track collection, McCreery exhibits his continued growth as a vocalist and songwriter, ” notes Holler , while Country Now calls it “ his best record yet, ” as Rise and Fall finds him exploring not only heartbreak but rowdy nights, nostalgia, faith, newfound joy, fatherhood and enduring love, resulting in a project full of insightful storytelling. The album was produced by McCreery’s longtime production team of Frank Rogers, Derek Wells and Aaron Eshuis. McCreery co-wrote 12 of the 13 songs on the album, which Billboard observes, “ Light-hearted fare such as ‘Stuck Behind a Tractor’ and ‘And Countin’’ mesh with heartbreak brushoffs such as ‘Lonely,’ the bluegrass-inflected album-closer ‘Porch’ and the faith-filled ‘Red Letter Blueprint. ’” It is available digitally as well as on CD and vinyl. In addition, Amazon is releasing a limited-edition forest green vinyl version of the album. “ I know every artist says it, but this is truly my favourite album I’ve made so far ,” shares McCreery. “ I wanted to create an album that reflected the music I grew up on and wasn’t chasing trends. So, I brought several of my songwriting buddies to the mountains of North Carolina to sit down and write a full-on country album that told a story, start to finish, and spoke to my soul. We’ve been performing most of the album live on the road and the response from the audiences has been overwhelming. I’m excited for everyone to finally hear Rise and Fall.” Now 30 years old and a seasoned country music veteran selling out concerts across the globe with six No. 1 hits under his belt, McCreery is also a dedicated husband and father, welcoming a son named Avery in 2022, whose impact on the singer is highlighted in several songs on the album. Recently, he even celebrated the milestone of all milestones for a guy who grew up on Randy Travis, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Ronnie Milsap; he was invited by his musical hero Garth Brooks to become the newest member of the iconic Grand Ole Opry. McCreery was just welcomed into the Opry family last month by two more of his heroes, Josh Turner and Randy Travis. Introducing Canadian band Hotel Mira to the UK market fresh from a string of stellar shows at SXSW. The band, an alternative pop act destined for arenas, released their new single “ Waste Away" on 26 th April via Light Organ Records . The quartet comprises of LA based charismatic frontman and songwriter Charlie Kerr, guitarist Clark Grieve, Mike Noble on bass and drummer Cole George. While building off the sharp, indie pop hooks, Hotel Mira are exploring their widest set of sounds yet, vaulting from neon-trashy garage rock to festival-sized pop hooks and glam-bop balladry. “‘ Waste Away’ tells the story of Domestic abuse. The tendency to Blame oneself. The confusion and backwards way we justify abusive behaviour. The way things can escalate slowly over time in a way that we don’t recognise until it’s too late. And of course, the trying to gather the courage to leave a partner and the very real threat of violence if you do. It is a love letter to the courage and resilience of survivors. Myself and close friends included.” CHARLIE KERR Live Charlie performs in a way that feels uniquely part Iggy Pop, part go-go dancer, and part fourth wall breaking experimental theatre. Charlie and Mike met as teenagers at a ‘Battle of the Bands’ and developed a mutual admiration for each others musical projects, they met Cole and Clark through the Vancouver music scene and formed Hotel Mira. Kerr is a captivating storyteller and the music from Hotel Mira is partly informed by the frontman’s experience as an actor and playwright. He believes that acting, music, and writing are all the same thing: story-telling. He draws a parallel to his musical project from the scene in the film ‘10 Things I Hate About You’ where Heath Ledger performs on the bleachers for the girl he loves while taunting the cops after paying the school marching band for backup. The band has supported many acts including Billy Talent, Fizzy Blood, The Beaches and Frank Lero (My Chemical Romance), and carried out multiple headlining tours of their own. Now they are gracing the The Impressive/Planetary Showcase @ The Secret Comedy Club, Brighton at 2pm on Thursday 16th May. BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville singer/songwriter Elvie Shane released his much anticipated sophomore album DAMASCUS on Friday, an ode to his artistic evolution and deep-feeling take on country music. Drawing inspiration from the Apostle Paul’s transformative biblical story and the hardened beauty of ancient steel, each of the 13 tracks find Shane stepping into the shoes of another, taking pieces of each character he’s met on his journey, and melding them into one beautifully woven work. Shane co-wrote all songs on the project produced by his frequent collaborator, Oscar Charles. “ There’s 13 songs on DAMASCUS, and a lot of piss and vinegar,” said Shane. “It’s the ‘Outside Dog’ in me that drives me to do this. Welcome to that autobiography, I’d like to formally introduce myself. ” The Kentucky native has won over critics, delivering “ an ode to blue-collar workers that exposes the heart-aching realities of the working class, ” (Billboard) as the project “ further cements Shane as a new voice of the damaged, addicted, and lost in country music, ” (Rolling Stone). Acclaimed champion of the next blue-collar generation, Elvie Shane has emerged as a country star with his heart on his sleeve, driven by his unwavering determination to aim for impact. A dynamic project of extremes and deep empathy with a sharp-edged fusion of country, rock, and hip-hop, Shane’s sophomore album DAMASCUS tells the deeply-layered tale of his journey through success, struggle and self-discovery – one that countless others battle with each day. The Kentucky native teamed up with Little Big Town for his track “First Place,” raising a glass to the everyday victory of just getting by. Shane’s gruff vocals couple with Little Big Town’s robust and iconic sound to deliver an irresistible, harmony-laden cocktail, with notes of “Boondocks” and Steve Earle. Ranging from Appalachian electro-punk to defiant heartland hip-hop, grungy gospel blues and neon ‘90s twang, Shane’s influences collide in DAMASCUS to tell his story – one that countless others have experienced in one way or another. The project kicks off with “Outside Dog,'' a me-against-the-world prideful anthem that sets the tone for his transformational turbulence and ultimately, self-discovery. The track is followed by the moody, gospel-rock “What Do I Know,” a scathing look into a world at odds with itself, while “Jonesin’” soulfully preaches about the weight of always needing more. The album pivots into a new stage of discovery, with the shadowy, electro-soul pulse of "Baptized" and bittersweet blue-collar anthem “Forgotten Man.” Shane tackles the opioid epidemic with the agonising “Pill,” and the need for prison reform with high-strung, funky “Appalachian Alchemy” and the weary, identity-stripping “215634.” Hope begins to build thanks to the inspirational message of betting on oneself in “Winning Horse.” The tempo picks up with the keys-driven, honky-tonk fun of “Fan On High,” with a reminder to never take life too seriously and the wild-cat swagger of “Chicken Shit.” Shane’s DAMASCUS journey concludes with the heartland-hymn “Does Heaven Have A Creek,” a track that finally finds peace through reflection of what really matters and what comes next. “I come from a farm, from the forests and fields of green Ukraine. From the resettlement camps of Germany. From the beaches of the Adriatic. ...And the cool air of Inverness" The London premiere run of Matthew Zajac’s internationally acclaimed The Tailor of Inverness opens at the multi-award-winning Finborough Theatre for a four-week limited season on Tuesday 14th May and runs until 8th June. This is a long overdue opportunity for London audiences to see an unforgettable and critically-acclaimed story of displacement and survival in war-torn Europe. A powerful allegory for all victims of war, it is a true story of journeys, of how a boy who grew up on a farm in Galicia (then in Eastern Poland, now in Western Ukraine) came to be a tailor in Inverness… That is the story he told….but was the tailor really who he said he was? Mateusz Zajac’s life spanned most of the 20th century. Taken prisoner by the Soviets in 1939 and forced to work, he was freed in an amnesty after the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union and joined the thousands of Poles fighting with the British Army in North Africa and Italy. He was then resettled in Britain in 1948, joining his brother in Glasgow. Playwright and actor Matthew Zajac has worked as an actor for 42 years. He is Artistic Director of Dogstar, most recently directing The Stornoway Way by Kevin MacNeil and The Fallen Angels of the Moine by George Gunn. His other plays include The Sky Is Safe and an adaptation of James Robertson’s novel The Testament of Gideon Mack, due for production in 2025. As Matthew told me when we chatted, there were a couple of occasions that could have sparked his interest in the theatre. " It could have been using my granny’s bed recess in her kitchen as a mini theatre when I was a wee about 6. It had curtains and I remember performing a song for my mum, granny and aunty. But I’m more sure it when I was in The Crucible at Inverness High School when I was 17. It was such a powerful experience. It’s what made me decide to be an actor. " Often we use the world of theatre to escape the real world, but I wondered how Matthew felt discovering some of his father's back story was fiction. " For me, theatre is a crucial part of the real world. All the same, it’s more constructed than much of life outside it. Discovering secrets my dad kept made me a bit angry at first. But I got over that quite quickly and realised he’d given me a great story." It seems the play has been cathartic not only for him. " Yes, doing the show is cathartic for me. Fortunately, it seems to have a similar effect on the audience! I didn’t turn to the theatre to help me deal with what I learned about my dad. I was already planning to write a book about him. That was quite daunting and I’d spent over 20 years working on new plays, so I decided to write a play instead because I thought it would be easier! The book came later." What else can the audience look forward to? " A few laughs, a few tears, some fantastic fiddle music, drama, video, documentary, dancing, singing and a quite a lot of theatre in a very small space!" After delighting London audiences, the play will continue globetrotting more than the man if features with tours to France and Scotland in November, and before that a tour to Sweden. But your chance to see the play in London is now. The Tailor of Inverness is part of the Finborough’s Theatre’s #VoicesFromUkraine, a programming strand set up in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The play runs from 14th May until 8th June, for tickets and further information please go to www.finboroughtheatre.co.uk or contact the Box Office 020 7244 7439. Image above (c) Tim Morozzo

The world’s most critically acclaimed James Bond concert is back again to tour the UK from May to October 2024. This dedicated tribute band is known for its adrenaline-fueled and stirring concerts, and will be hosted by Miss Monepenny herself – Bliss, Caroline Bliss. With stunning vocal performances, exquisite musicianship, and detailed arrangements that stay faithful to the iconic spy film franchise, The James Bond Concert Spectacular takes audiences on a thrilling rollercoaster to rival the movies. Adding further dazzle to this striking night of musical entertainment, Caroline Bliss will be hosting the concert. Guiding audiences throughout the evening, as compere extraordinaire, Caroline Bliss will also be sharing wonderful anecdotes and memories from her time filming The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill. Having performed all over the world and previously selling out the West End and Indigo at the 02 Arena, The James Bond Concert Spectacular is set to excite and thrill on their latest UK tour. Bringing the music of this legendary series to life once more, director Warren Ringham comments, " The James Bond Concert Spectacular by Q The Music is a show that is created by Bond fans for Bond fans. It is a show with a palpable love of Bond and the 007 music with a level of enthusiasm and flair that you will really feel come out of the performance. " Warren is a man, born to music and especially film music. His Dad played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and his aunt was the first professional trombone player with the Halle Orchestra. He remembers his childhood well, " I can remember being with my Dad as he was practising at home three to four hours every day. I also went with him on some of the recording sessions for film music. I think I was around nine when I first picked up a trumpet. " Warren is one of those lucky people who have managed to combine his love of Bond with his job to create these concerts, but what about the band? " The standard concert band only has ten players, we have upped that to thirteen to give that powerful sound you associate with the main Bond themes. But that is not all the audience have to look forward to, we also include some of the incidental music that is used throughout the films " I wondered if he had ever thought about accompanying a Bond film live as a concert? " It would be harder to arrange because Eon have the film rights, but as the late Sean Connery once said - 'Never, Say Never'!" " These concerts have become a great way of bringing Bond fans together, and after more than 60 years of Bond films, we feel we are keeping the music alive and taking it to new audiences at the same time. Whilst nothing can compare to the iconic original performances, there is also nothing like live music, and we always bring a passion and authenticity to our versions, which are faithful to the original arrangements to incredible levels of detail. The love of what we do, and the love of Bond, is infectious and undeniable!" One real treat of all Bond fans, on 13th October at Indigo at the 02, David Zaritsky (The Bond Experience) will act as compere, with special guest appearances from Maud Adams and Britt Ekland, who starred in The Man with the Golden Gun. A RIP-ROARING PREHISTORIC SCIENCE POP GIG FOR ALL AGES Audiences of all ages are invited to join famous palaeontologist Dr Jakob Vinther and a five-strong band as they enter the multi-coloured world of the dinosaurs in a sixty-minute show featuring a kaleidoscope of funky music, real-life stories and fascinating science. Dr Jakob Vinther, a palaeontologist at Bristol University, made the discovery around 15 years ago: that melanin (a pigment) is preserved in the feathers and skin of dinosaurs and can thus help determine their original colourings. Now he swaps the lab for the stage to tell the story of his discovery with the help of the real star of the show, Dee the Psittacosaurus - who is the most accurate model of a dinosaur ever made! Following a sold-out week at Bristol Old Vic in 2023. The Colour of Dinosaurs will play in Polka’s Main Theatre from 11th May – 9th June 2024, Recommended for 6-12 year olds and their families, The Colour of Dinosaurs brings together an amazing team of neurodivergent and disabled performers to bring the story to life and celebrate everyone’s identities, including disability, cultural identity, and of course, how much they love dinosaurs! Alongside Dr Jakob Vinter, the band is a collective of musicians and performers: Dom Coyote, Lloyd Coleman, Victoria Oruwari, Roxana Vilk and Harry Miller - playing themselves and sharing their own real-life experiences, their authentic responses to Jakob’s research and how they draw similarities from these dinosaur discoveries with themselves. Lloyd Coleman, composer/co-creator of The Colour of Dinosaurs explains, “ Jakob changed what the world knows about the colour of dinosaurs, and our show dives headfirst into the mind-blowing science behind his big discovery. You can also expect catchy tunes, emotional real-life stories and some incredible fossils… on top of asking why this stuff matters to us as humans. My bandmates and I are so excited to stomp our way into Polka this summer!” The Colour of Dinosaurs is directed by Dom Coyote and associate director Kyla Goodey, with music by Lloyd Coleman and writing by Malaika Kegode, and is based on the research of Dr Jakob Vinther. It is designed by Amy Pitt and Saskia Tomlinson, with lighting design by Chris Swain and sound by Joe D’souza and sensory design consultancy by Annie Davies. As Executive Producer for co-creator Otic, Liz Counsell explains, “ At the heart of this show is the belief that curiosity can triumph over fear, that everyone is equal and that all of our brilliant differences should be celebrated and bring us together, not push us apart. Each member of the cast explores various aspects of difference and identity, interwoven through the show... for instance, Lloyd has albinism, which is the inability to produce melanin and causes his vision impairment." "Victoria experiences synaesthesia, the extraordinary ability to associate music and sounds with colour - especially fascinating as she became blind in childhood. Dom talks and sings movingly about not fully knowing about his heritage and identity, and Harry and Rocky both touch on aspects of their lived experiences too. We were amazed at just how many profound conversations were prompted by Jakob’s study of ancient dinosaur fossils. But the show is really silly and fun too: It's a kaleidoscope of science, emotions, jokes and cracking tunes.” Tickets are on sale now via polkatheatre.com or call 020 8543 4888 Both images are from last year's sell-out performances at the Bristol Old Vic'

CARLOS ACOSTA’S BRB2 BEGINS SECOND UK TOUR WITH A NEW GLOBAL COHORT OF FIRST-CLASS EMERGING BALLET DANCERS In Spring 2023, Birmingham Royal Ballet’s (BRB) Director, the world-renowned Carlos Acosta, launched BRB2 - a new initiative through which BRB pro-actively seeks out some of the best young ballet graduates from across the globe. BRB2 features some of the brightest young stars in the ballet world, hailing from the UK, USA, Ukraine, France, Germany, New Zealand and Australia, and offers a unique opportunity for audiences to be the first to see ballet’s elite rising stars on stage. BRB2 is a magnet for the best UK and international talent, providing extensive training and professional experience, sending developed, professional dancers back into the dance sector and providing role models for the next generation. The two-year performance programme provides vital employment for the next generation of exceptional ballet dancers (aged 18-22) to transition from training into jobs at BRB or other leading ballet companies, impacting the dance sector worldwide. Now, after a hugely successful inaugural tour in 2023, BRB2 hits the road again with further performances of Carlos Acosta’s Classical Selection, a mixed programme of balletic highlights chosen by Acosta himself, visiting some venues for the first time. Opening in Cheltenham, the tour then visits Poole, Northampton, Canterbury and Peterborough. BRB2’s visit to Canterbury will mark the first time Birmingham Royal Ballet has performed in the city. Carlos Acosta said: “ Everyone was so delighted with how the inaugural year of BRB2 went. It's been a great year, watching the inaugural group of dancers grow and develop, and to welcome the second intake join and quickly establish themselves as vital members of the Company. Many BRB2 artists are already taking important roles in the current The Sleeping Beauty tour (over 41 shows this Spring) and I cannot be more thrilled that all of the initial intake will be joining the Company full-time at the end of this season. " It's not just about talent spotting though! My Classical Selection is a brilliant evening of ballet whether you are an established fan or looking for a way to discover what ballet is all about. ” The music for End of Time and Dying Swans will be performed live by Jeanette Wong (Head of Piano) and Antonio Novais (Principal Cellist). Jeanette will also perform two solo piano pieces by Ravel to accompany a brand-new duet, titled Mirrored, choreographed especially for BRB2 this year by Will Tuckett. The programme for the 2024 UK tour includes the world premiere of Mirrored, a wholly new duet created by William Tuckett for BRB2. Further pas de deux include Frederick Ashton’s Rhapsody - premiered at The Royal Ballet in 1980 by Mikhail Baryshnikov and Lesley Collier; August Bournonville’s most famous ballet La Sylphide; The love duet from Swan Lake - probably the most famous pas de deux in ballet; Carlos Acosta’s take on Fokine’s The Dying Swan which features two dancers instead of one (hence The Dying Swans plural) and is double the usual length; Marius Petipa’s Diana and Actaeon pas de deux; Ben Stevenson’s End of Time set to Rachmaninov's gloriously melancholic Sonata in G Minor (3rd movement). In the second half Gustavo Mollajoli’s A Buenos Aires celebrates the spirit of tango to music by Astor Piazzolla; the iconic Edith Piaf’s Je ne regrette rien choreographed by Ben Van Cauwenbergh, whose Jacques Brel-inspired humorous gala piece Les Bourgeois will also feature. Acosta’s choreography for the Carmen pas de deux promises to raise the temperature with Bizet’s heat-seeking score. Will Tuckett’s new duet Mirrored will captivate audiences before Jorges Garcia’s Majisimo closes out the programme, performed to Massenet’s music from Le Cid. Below Will Tuckett (c) Imogen Harvey

Bethlehem Cultural Festival has announced a new international graffiti art project, Palestinian street artist Taqi Spateen is coming to the UK to create large-scale murals with local street artists in five locations. So far, Jimmy C and Ciaran Glöbel confirmed, more artists to come. Spateen has been liaising from Palestine with the artists about the plans, both logistical and artistic, for the murals they will create. The locations are still being chosen, factoring in visibility to the public, footfall - and vitally how long each mural will stay in place before being painted over. Depending on light and weather, the artists plan to paint every day working towards a public unveiling on the final day in each location. Palestinian artist and activist Taqi Spateen is in the UK to work with work with artists and communities in Leeds, Glasgow, Bristol, Stroud and London to create five large-scale murals. Street artists Ciaran Glöbel in Glasgow and Jimmy C in London are already confirmed. More artists and the exact locations for the murals will be confirmed in the coming weeks. Glasgow-based Ciaran Glöbel, with fellow artist Conzo Throb, was behind the fake Banksy - a rat wearing a union jack bowler and banging a drum emblazoned with the words “God Save the King” - which appeared in the city last June. The stunt was intended to highlight the hypocrisy surrounding street art and graffiti, where some artworks are praised and valued and others are dismissed and removed. Glöbel was the subject of a 2018 BBC Arts short film, Hands On, about his work as an artist, graphic designer and signwriter. Australian-born and London-based, Jimmy C (James Cochran) was a vital part of the development of the graffiti scene in Adelaide, known for his aerosol art murals and his work in city and regional communities across Australia. His urban realist narrative paintings often depict marginalised humans in the context of the urban environment. On 8th May, Spateen arrives in Leeds to begin working with a group of local street artists in collaboration with East Street Arts and the Leeds Palestine Film Festival. On 17 May, he travels up to Glasgow to team up with Ciaran Glöbel, one of the artists behind the recent fake Banksy in the city. On 27 May, he heads to Bristol to work with a team of artists as part of Upfest, Europe’s largest street art and graffiti festival. On 1 June, he goes to Stroud to work with Stroud Valleys Artspace (SVA) and the Picturedrome Theatre, Gloucester. From 6 to 15 June, he will be teaming up with Jimmy C in London. Taqi Spateen has created many murals on the wall including The Boy with the Goldfish Bowl, showing a child with what is left after the destruction of his childhood home, a series of portraits of George Floyd, and his collaboration with the brand The North Face, Walls Are Meant For Climbing. Now creating and exhibiting internationally, Spateen draws inspiration from the Palestinian countryside, particularly the olive tree, one of the most famous of all Palestinian symbols. His more recent paintings also include depictions of mass urbanisation and colonial settlements on his precious homeland. Graffiti art is a major cultural force in Palestine. In August 2005, UK street artist Banksy and his team painted seven large murals on a section of the 440-miles-long West Bank Wall, also referred to as the Separation Wall. Since then, the wall has gone on to become a hotspot for the graffiti scene, a major tourist attraction and a powerful work of art in its own right. The Festival’s creative director, Melissa Scott, says: " We are excited to be able to facilitate collaborations between Taqi and UK-based street artists. We hope the resulting murals will be a lasting legacy demonstrating our hopes to eliminate the walls and borders that divide us as humans. We continue to be devastated by the violence inflicted on all our friends, artists and cultural practitioners in Palestine.” For up to date information about the murals in each location and the street artist involved, please got to https://www.bethlehemculturalfestival.com/ Images Taqi Spateen (below); Jimmy C (above)

The Home of Entertainment – The Heart of Brighton, Komedia Turns 30! This May, much-loved Brighton institution Komedia will celebrate its 30 th Birthday! From humble beginnings at a small venue on Manchester Street in Kemptown in 1994, to their home for the last 26 years on Gardner Street in the North Laine, Komedia has certainly been through its ups and downs but has managed to weather the storm, in an ever-changing landscape, where multiple independent venues are lost each year. Only yesterday I heard someone say he had been drinking at a venue on a Monday and when he went passed on the Tuesday it was shut & closed. Komedia was born from the minds of the directors of ‘Umbrella Theatre’, Colin Granger, Marina Kobler, and David Lavender. The company modelled the venue on the cabaret theatres they had seen while touring in cities such as Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Berlin. Lavender stumbled across the name Komedia in an international theatre magazine chose it as it had ‘ echoes of both comedy and media, and a sense of crossing boundaries .’ Komedia soon outgrew the Manchester Street venue and were soon on the hunt for new premises, which at one point even included a venue in Churchill Square. After much searching, in 1998, Komedia moved to Jubilee Shopping Hall (a former Tesco supermarket), the opening show was Disco Pigs featuring Cillian Murphy and in June 1999 Krater Comedy Club was born after the ‘crater like’ basement area was transformed into performance space. The larger venue has attracted a variety of established and up-and-coming acts over the years, often acting as launchpad for new talent. Comedy acts have included: Catherine Tate, Stewart Lee, Ross Noble, Alan Carr, Harry Hill, The Mighty Boosh, Johnny Vegas, Dave Gorman, John Bishop (below), Lee Mack, Jimmy Carr, Michael Mcintyre, Micky Flanagan, Rob Beckett, Alex Horne, Rob Delaney, Eddie Izzard, Greg Davies, Flight of the Conchords, Jack Whitehall, Dara O'Briain, Sarah Millican, Bridget Christie, Armando Ianucci, Zoe Lyons, Angela Barnes, Maisie Adams and Jen Brister. Music acts have included: Lewis Capaldi, KT Tunstall, Tom Odell, James Bay, IDLES, The XX, Kate Nash, Anna Calvi, Ghostpoet, Bonobo, Bat for Lashes, Arctic Monkeys, Foals, Mumford and Sons, Mulatu Astatke, James Blake, All Saints, Alabama Shakes, Shakaba Hutchings, Black Midi, AJ Tracey, Anish Kumar and The Mary Wallopers. In 2020 when COVID struck, the venue closed on the 18 th March 2020 and didn’t re-open until the 22nd May 2021. It was a time of ups and downs, as it was for many venues across the country. Despite being closed for over a year, shows having to move online, three floods, two new floors and a rollercoaster ride of emergency funding bids, Komedia managed to come out the other side, with a renewed sense of determination, rebuilding their programme from the ground up. Komedia Founders Marina and Colin said; “ It has been an incredible journey these past 30 years. The venue we created in Brighton in May 1994 was inspired by European Café Theatre venues and was something entirely new for Brighton and the rest of the UK; and it is thanks to all the brilliant staff and performers who have worked and still work for us, that we remain an independent, self-supporting venue which offers a wide choice of live entertainment, good service and welcomes people of all ages and from all walks of life. We look forward to seeing Komedia develop and thrive in the future. ” To celebrate their birthday, Komedia are putting on a week of special events running from Sat 4th May to Sun 12 th May, see the full programme here . They are also launching Komedia branded merchandise, featuring a custom illustration by Emily Wallace, which will be available to purchase in the venue from May onwards. Komedia are also giving one lucky person a ‘Golden Ticket’ meaning they can access any Komedia event for free for a full year (and they can bring a friend/family member too). Simply head over to their competition page here to find out how you can win before the 30th April! To see what Komedia has coming up, visit their website at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton

From 1 May 2024. Dogs of all shapes and sizes can explore fifty acres of formal and landscaped gardens of Cheshire's Tatton Park with their owners, enjoying the views and finding their favourite picnic spot in the longer summer days. In this new initiative that Tatton Park are trialling this year, dogs on short leads will be welcome in Tatton’s formal gardens every day through the summer. This new dog initiative in the gardens, will be trialled across the summer months and will be reviewed at the end of September 2024. Not everyone loves dogs, and some people fear them, so visitors are reminded to make sure their dogs don’t approach other people, especially children, unless the dog is invited to. In addition to the gardens there are some wonderful parkland walks for visitors with dogs to explore with over one thousand acres of ancient deer park to enjoy. Dogs can exercise off lead, under close control, in the parkland. But please remember to keep a close eye on your dog at all time and have a supply of little bags, should the need arise. Tatton Park are very mindful of their duty to balance the needs of dog owners, who want to enjoy Tatton Park and not leave their dogs "Home Alone" or in a potentially hot car. With their custodianship row in supporting efforts to protect precious parkland wildlife, farm animals and habitats. Hence out in the parkland, dogs will need to be on leads and under close control from 1 May – 31 July 2024 as this is Deer calving time. If you wish to take your family, and the family pet(s) to Tatton this summer (fingers crossed it will be hot, but I didn't want to tempt providence). please check out the up to date advice on the Tatton Park website www.tattonpark.org.uk/dogs and to look out for signage on site, during their visit.

Created by performance maker Ray Young, OUT won the 2017 South East Dance A Space to Dance Brighton Fringe Award and was nominated for the 2017 Total Theatre & The Place Award for Dance. Embracing personal, political, and cultural dissonance; this act of interdisciplinary self-expression smashes through normativity, summoning voices and re-enacting movements in an exhilarating mash-up of remembrance and re-invention. OUT carves out a new kind of space from which to reimagine, reclaim and celebrate aspects of Caribbean culture from a queer perspective. Ray Young ’s award-winning duet OUT comes to the Lilian Baylis Studio from Thursday 25 – Friday 26 April 2024. OUT defiantly challenges homophobia and transphobia while reclaiming dancehall and celebrating social dance culture. The 2024 restaging of OUT is performed by Azara Meghie and Bambi Jordan Phillips and features lighting design by Nao Nagai, set design by Naomi Kuyck-Cohen, sound design by Naomi Jackson and costume design by Mia Maxwell. Esma Allman is Assistant Director, Nandi Bhebhe Movement Director and Nussatari Movement Consultant. Ahead of OUT coming to the Lilian Baylis Studio, Ray Young said “I am extremely excited to be bringing OUT back in 2024, the themes in the work resonate more now than ever before. As queer people we are still living in a world in which it is contentious for us to dare to thrive in our bodies, this is doubly so for our trans siblings whose lives are often under threat from the simple act of living authentically." "Surely being able to do this is non-negotiable. I’m over the moon and hugely privileged to be working with Bambi Jordan Philips and Azara Meghie. Two phenomenal queer performances artists who will step into the work as performers for this iteration of OUT . It is amazing to be kicking off the year with this project!” Rob Jones, Sadler’s Wells Associate Artistic Director said “When I first saw OUT , I was completely mesmerised and shook to the core. The way this work irreverently takes up space and pushes forward an important conversation is a gift. I am beyond excited to welcome Ray Young’s latest iteration of this work to the Lilian Baylis Studio. Both Azara Meghie and Bambi Jordan Phillips are incredible performers in their own right, who are breathing new life into this powerful production. Bring on the dancehall, lasers, pink dance floor and the oranges.” OUT was created with kind support from Arts Council England, The Marlborough Theatre, The Yard Theatre, IBT, Leicester Curve, South East Dance and Greenwich University. The 2024 restaging of the work has been supported by Cambridge Junction and Sadler’s Wells. Out comes to Lilian Baylis Studio on Thursday 25th & Friday 26t April.
