Direct Input is a new music night hosted by 471Route C.I.C. at Bloom Building, Birkenhead, dedicated to showcasing the most exciting emerging talent from the alternative and left-field music scenes. Blending the best of local underground acts with boundary-pushing touring artists, Direct Input is a raw, unfiltered platform for music that defies convention and demands to be heard.

Volume One opens it’s pages at 7:00pm on Sunday 29th June and there are three acts for your enjoyment. Stone Prayer Society, Moth and My Back Pages.

The visitors for Volume 1, Stone Prayer Society have emerged from the vibrant music scene in the heart of West Yorkshire, the group was born out of a shared love for the melancholic melodies of the ‘90s and the desire to bring that spirit into the modern age. Thick, gritty basslines form the foundation for heavy yet intricate guitar parts, weaving a tapestry of sound that’s both expressive and powerful. With brooding vocals and hard-hitting drums, their music echoes with raw emotion and passion.

I really love the stories of groups who formed organically rather than as some algorithmic whim of a record producer or promoter. Formed in the New Brighton Skate Bowl in early 2025, the sound of MOTH’s New-Wave Alternative Rock brings the soul of early 90’s Grunge into a new Modern-Rock feeling. The combined influences of this quartet reveals an energy that departs from the usual music of Merseyside and North Wales. (pictured at the head of the article).

Finally, a solo artist who sounds like a pleasant blend of styles from the Birkenhead side of the Mersey. My Back Pages, holed up in Wirral’s weird embrace writes pretty, scratchy, heart punching songs that sound like Bob Dylan, Nick Drake and Adrianne Lenker made a cup tea and he drank it.
