New York / New Jersey punk upstarts Homebase return with Close To Something, a new EP that channels restless energy and emotional urgency into their most immediate release yet. Formed in the summer of 2023, Homebase emerged from what began as casual hangouts filled with jamming, pizza, and late nights that quickly turned into something more serious once the chemistry between members became undeniable.
Anchored by the striking lyric “The space between the cracks, was all I ever had,” the EP channels the band’s signature mix of urgency, vulnerability, and explosive energy. Across the release, Homebase fuse the aggression of hardcore with the hook-driven punch of pop punk, creating songs designed to be shouted back from the front row.
Sitting between the vibrant punk scenes of New Jersey and New York, the band built their reputation the old-fashioned way: relentless DIY hustle and raw, high-energy live shows. That momentum has already begun to pay off. Their breakout single “Bold” surpassed 30,000 streams, helping introduce the band to a wider audience and earning coverage from outlets including The Punk Site, Reckles Press, Blood Makes Noise, Uber Rock, and Music N Gear.
Critics have also taken notice. Northern Exposure Magazine recently wrote, “With their DIY aesthetic, crunching riffs, heartfelt lyrics and relentless energy, they’re certainly going to be one to watch.”
Homebase are Matt Valentin — Guitar / Vocals, Antonio Valentino — Vocals, Chris Ochoa — Drums, Arturo Cordova — Guitar and last but by no means least Dave Caruso Josh — Bass. The band’s music balances intensity with melody, channeling the emotional honesty of modern punk while keeping the hardcore spirit that fuels their live performances. Songs like “Nuff Said” highlight that dynamic, confronting self-doubt, creative pressure, and the realities of being a young band trying to carve out space in a crowded underground scene.
With Close To Something, Homebase push that sound even further—louder, tighter, and more anthemic—cementing their reputation as one of the most promising new bands emerging from the Northeast punk scene. To celebrate the EP release, the band will continue bringing their high-energy live show to stages across the region this spring.
