Dee Allum (The Stand-up Sketch Show, The News Quiz, One Person Found This Helpful) brings her witty and acerbic sophomore show to the Pleasance Courtyard following on from her award-nominated debut. The show’s title ‘Raumdeuter’ literally means ‘space interpreter’, a word coined by footballer Thomas Müller to describe his style, floating between the striker and the winger, getting into half-spaces and causing mischief. In other words, the most transgender thing to ever happen in sports.
In a World Cup year, when England have again failed to bring it home/end sixty years of hurt (delete as appropriate), the question of whether sport can truly be for everyone is as pertinent now as ever. It’s also been a tough year for Dee, much like/unlike the England team, as she’s entered a long-distance relationship, got a real job and started the process towards getting life-changing surgery.
Drily revelling in the in-between, Dee takes stock of what it means to authentically be someone in a world where everyone wants you to be something. Dee is transitioning in every aspect of her life. Will this ever end? Can any of us ever truly finish becoming the person we want to be? Is it ever really coming home? Dee Allum is an award-winning stand-up comedian and writer. She started her comedy career performing sketches with the Cambridge Footlights and wrote the prestigious Footlights Pantomime in 2018.
Dee took her debut solo stand-up show, Deadname, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2024 (See below) to wide critical acclaim, receiving reviews such as: “A story of gender identity told with panache, charm, self-deprecation and copious wit … An inventive, casually ironic storytelling skill…a true stand-up.” ★★★★ The Times. After Edinburgh, Dee took Deadname to London’s Soho Theatre, followed by a tour of the UK in 2025.
