They say never act with children and animals. But as Chauntecleer & Pertlotte: A Beasty Babel Fable. comes to Oxford Playhouse’s Burton Taylor Studio, audiences will discover actors James Coutsavlis and Izzy McKenty animate 24 human and animal characters. The play is loosely based on Geoffrey Chaucer’s A Nun’s Priest’s Tale and the two actors deliver Chaucerian dialogue at breakneck speed in the style of Aesop’s Fables, where often the vagaries of human behaviour were expressed in the characters of animals.

Situated just around the corner from Oxford Playhouse, the Burton Taylor Studio will host a vibrant programme of bold new work, spanning fierce drama, thrilling comedy and charming family shows in its intimate black box venue. Winner of Best New Play at Brighton Festival, Chauntecleer & Pertlotte: A Beasty Babel Fable is one of them and is at the studio today & tomorrow.
