Oxford Playhouse is delighted to welcome in the auspicious Year of the Snake with a Chinese New Year Festival Show presented by The Confucius Institute at Oxford Brookes University. Their family-friendly evening full of colour, amazement, and fun will play on the Main Stage on Wednesday 15th January. From the cheerful spirit of the auspicious Lion Dance to the majestic and awe-inspiring fan dance, a team of performers will delight audiences in a colourful display of Chinese cultural tradition.

2025 marks the fifth Chinese New Year show that the Confucius Institute at Oxford Brookes University has produced and is the fourth year Oxford Playhouse has hosted the event on its stage. From incredible acrobatics, Chinese dance, Britain’s best Kung Fu display and an 18-metre-long dragon to illuminate the stage, the fourth annual Chinese New Year show at The Playhouse offers a spectacular lineup of Chinese performing arts. Directed by Jinlong Culture & Performing Arts in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at Oxford Brookes University.

Jinlong Culture & Performing Arts is a Manchester-based Culture Events Company and Martial Arts School, founded by Master Chen (Chen Deqing). He established the company to expand and broaden the range and reach of Chinese classical and contemporary arts in the UK. Master Chen has also been acting as an Arts Director since 2007 for the Chinese New Year celebration in Manchester China Town and Albert Square, which is now considered one of the biggest and best in Europe.
