International violinist Keith Pascoe returns to his home town to to perform Tchaikovsky’s ever popular Violin Concerto with the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra. The first of their three visits to The Tung Auditorium this year is entitled Theatre & Tragedy. The Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto provides the meat in the sandwich between the delightful overture to JC Bach’s opera Lucio Silla, and the 19-year-old Schubert’s ‘Tragic’ symphony, so named by the composer, closes proceedings.
Johann Christian Bach was one of the son’s of Johann Sebastian Bach, and a close friend of Mozart. In fact both of them wrote opera’s based on the tale of Lucio Silla, Mozart’s being the earlier one. But there was certainly no enmity between the two Mozart commented after the death of Johann Christian; ‘What a loss to the musical world!’ (‘schade für die Musikalische Welt!’ Though written when he was just 19 years old, perhaps the greatest tragedy about Schubert’s Symphony No. 4 in C minor, is that it was not performed until some twenty years after his death (and after another five symphonies).
The concert will be held at The Tung Auditorium on Saturday 8th February, with the orchestra under the batons of Rosina Fleuckiger & Andre Chan. For tickets and further information, please check out the website
