There is a pop song which contains the line “New York, New York, so good they names it twice”. Well the audience were clearly just am impressed when Beethoven’s 7th Symphony in A major Op 92 was premiered. Its second movement is so beautiful that it was encored in its entirety at the premiere! That piece forms the second half of this weekend’s concert ot the Tung Auditorium by the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra under the baton of Robin Wallington (pictured above).

Speaking of premieres, the concert begins with Judith Weir’s “Planet”. Premiered in June 2024 in Aldeburgh, and composed by the previous Master of the King’s Music. The first half concludes with Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto, a staple of the repertoire and on this occasion, Luke Jones will be at the keyboard. Originally from Wrexham in North Wales, he started playing the piano at the age of 5 and made his debut recital at Oriel Wrecsam aged 10. Since then he has performed all over Britain in venues such as Bridgewater Hall – Manchester, Eaton Square – London, St. David’s Hall – Cardiff, Symphony Hall – Birmingham, Pump Room – Bath, St. George’s – Bristol as well as many European venues.
