Michael Morpurgo’s “Private Peaceful” at Theatre Royal Winchester

Private Peaceful is based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo and is a one man show with the character of Tommo Peaceful looking at the events that have shaped his life and thinking about first love and family the night before going into battle. The play is at Theatre Royal Winchester from 28th to 30th September. It star’s Benjamin Cain, making his stage debut as the eponymous Private Peaceful, and has been adapted for the stage by Simon Reade.

Simon said; “Earlier this summer I saw a young actor in his graduating show at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School: Benjamin Cain. He was witty, truthful, strong yet vulnerable. I knew at once here was our new Peaceful. Ben was raised in a Dorset village. For him, this really is a story close to home. What an opportunity, for me as much as Ben, to revive Michael’s contemporary classic of love and loss – this theatrical celebration of life.”
