Smithdown Weekender returns for packed free celebration of local Liverpool talent

Smithdown Weekender is back for another unforgettable couple of days celebrating Liverpool’s music scene.

Running on the 2nd and 3rd  October with a special opening party at Black Cat on Thursday the 1st, this event remains completely free giving local up and coming acts a great opportunity to perform to full crowds alongside some great local established acts. A range of styles and acts will perform in venues along the famous road with the main stage for bands being hosted by the Handyman Bar and Brewery.

Festival favourites Silent-K bring the psych fun to Friday night alongside Handyman debutants Lyons and Tigers and Lula Nova. Sticking with tradition, Sound Together Choir will open the stage on Saturday afternoon. Then later that evening, The Shipbuilders make their long awaited full band return to the event before Eugene McQueen & the American Dream bring their fun 80s inspired rock and pop set to get the room in dancing mood before the DJ starts.

Moving down the road, Black Cat is back with an opening party plus two great days of indie, jazz and rock’n’roll. New Orleans inspired brass band Sticky Lips will get the party going on Thursday night, with K1 favourites Party Sauce and Sh*t Indie Disco (Shindie) DJ Adem getting the venue going crazy on Friday. Saturday will see Black Cat turn into a big dance party as Jubel beer will takeover with DJs and freebies all night!

In-between those two venues, The Beeswing will host acoustic sessions in the afternoon then full bands in evening featuring acts such as Katie Brown, Jonny Taylor, The Din Dins and Gastrix. Also, on display in the Handyman is the fabulous artwork from Belgian artist Benjamin Schoos. It depicts an aliens concept of Liverpool music scene featuring many acts who have performed at the event.

All events are free, with each venue taking donations for The Whitechapel Centre, a charity which the event has supported since day one.
