Oxford Playhouse brings a brand-new season of professional work to its Burton Taylor Studio this autumn. The Burton Taylor Studio programme features bold, intimate and comedic performances from cutting-edge writers and experimental theatre companies. This week sees two one person shows which highlight how we can be affected both by what our own bodies do to us, but also the gadgets we use, or possible overuse!

Charlie’s sick of wasting time on his phone, so he’s bought a flip phone. What could go wrong? Panos Kandunias’ I Bought a Flip Phone (pictured below) is a funny, heartfelt look at loneliness, digital burnout, and the pressure to feel like you’re doing life right. Following on Friday 5th September, mental health, identity, and recovery are explored in Period Drama (pictured below), a dark comedy from Olga Kaleta with integrated BSL by Sherrie Eugene Hart. Physical theatre brings this laugh-out-loud performance to life, dissecting questions of wellness through a feminist lens, via slasher flicks, bloody knickers and existential dilemmas of insects.
